Artist Statement
If it qualifies for a tax break, a heart break, or a mental break, it may be a part of my work. I explore diverse perspectives, focusing on contemporary experiences of queer and disabled individuals. I share these experiences to illuminate the richness of our communities and the intersections therein. By portraying narratives of marginalized individuals, I seek to dismantle societal barriers, fostering empathy, understanding, and inclusivity. I aspire to continue making work with community at the core of my practice.
I create porcelain casts of stigmatized disability aids to challenge perceptions about those who rely on them, using the disability pride flag’s color language and historical references to reframe these objects. I create collages detailing historical movements and fights for our rights that are becoming increasingly relevant in new contexts. My work spans ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography, and installations. While I often engage with political themes, I also explore the intimate and erotic aspects of human life as a means of creating greater connection and understanding between groups and individuals. Through all of my work, I aim to celebrate people and all the good we can do for each other.
Ceramics and Glass
Ceramics and glass are some of the most ancient industries. In exploring identity, I look back to our past through these time honored practices. Retaining a focus on the functionality of vessels, I strive to bring new perspectives to these traditional materials.
Two Dimensional
When painting or drawing, I cannot help but be drawn to depiction of people from all walks of life. Through repetition and multiplicity, I explore shifts in community focusing on the individual among masses as new themes develop.
Installation and Public Art
Sharing my creative practice with a community brings greater meaning and value to my work. Exchange of thoughts, imagery, and experiences are essential as diverse perspectives and criticism allow opportunities for conversation and growth of my public practice.
